Colors have Meaning

Colors are used to represent many things. Not just things that would fit their description (such as the “green grass” or the “blue sky”), but ideas and concepts that take on greater meaning and represent something bigger than just the color itself. It’s a way for people to identify with something and it can bring unity to a cause.

The particular bike featured here has just that type of thought and meaning behind its origins. The rider was looking for a bike that “is different and that no one else has.” The only requirements were that the color scheme include the pink and purple finishes. From there, it was up to our designer to complete the look.

The result is a bike that honors a co-worker’s son’s fight against cancer and the organizations that support that fight. The purple color represents the Children’s Cancer Association’s whose mission it is to help make sick children feel better through bringing them Joy. “For 25 years, we’ve been delivering programs to help young patients find their Joy- one song, one friendship, one breath of ocean air at a time. Because when a child experiences Joy, their emotional well-being is positively impacted.”- Children’s Cancer Association (www.joyrx.org).

As a Professional Golfer, the rider has been playing every year in the annual Pro-Am benefit tournament that directly supports fundraising for this organization. In addition to the Pro-Am tournament, every summer he participates in a marathon round of Golf where he completes 100 holes over the course of a day and he is able to raise over $10,000 every year that gets donated to this association.

Paired with the purple of the Children’s Cancer Association is the color Pink which is most commonly associated with the fight against breast cancer. Pink was chosen to call attention to the fight against cancer and to all those affected by it. While there is not a specific organization that he works with in a manner similar to the Children’s Cancer Association, the two places where he has found the most resource material (on a local level here in Portland) are the OHSU Knight Cancer Institute and the Ruth J. Spear Breast Center of Providence Health Services.
